I think it is so sad that most of today's children have NEVER heard a Nursery Rhyme....and don't even know what the term means! As a child, my sisters & I shared a small chest of drawers. There were 6 drawers...each of us got 2 and we were allowed to pick the Nursery Rhyme picture decal that Mom put on the front so we could know whose was whose drawer. After nearly 50 years, I no longer remember which of us girls had which picture, but to this day, I'll never forget those little pictures....and all of us girls knew those Nursery Rhymes by heart.
1) Jack be nimble; Jack be quick. Jack jump over the candlestick.
2) Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep & doesn't know where to find them.
Leave them alone, and they'll come home, wagging their tails behind them!
3) Little Jack Horner sat in a corner, eating his Christmas pie.
He stuck in his thumb & pulled out a plum and said 'what a good boy, am I'
4) Mary had a little lamb, it's fleece was white as snow; and everywhere
that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go!
5) Peter, Peter, Pumpkin-eater, had a wife and couldn't keep her;
He put her in a pumpkin shell, and there he kept her very well!
6) Mary, Mary, quite contrary; How does your garden grow?
With silverbells & cockleshells, and pretty maids all in a row!
How many do YOU know?
